Action Bronson unleashes a true school Wi Tang flavoured mixtape

Bronson inhabits the tiny niche of fat, bald, ginger, Albanian descendent rappers with their own cooking show, who happen to be good. We’re pretty sure that’s a field of one right there. On his latest mixtape, produced by a firing-on-all-cylinders Alchemist, Bronson raps his usual hood tales of drugs, hos, ice and fatty snacks with an inventive wit and a sharp, attacking flow that threatens to decapitate the mic. He’s probably never gonna escape the comparisons to Wu Tang’s Ghostface Killah, mostly because he sounds just like him, but as Bronson says-

“It’s all good because Ghostface Killah is one of the best rappers alive, so if I sound similar to the best rapper alive then that is fine. To me there is no comparison; he is a legend and I am a newcomer.”

Can't say fairer than that really, and he's right- if you're gonna sound like someone, it may as well be one of the best there is...

Highlights on Chandeliers include recent single The Symbol, where a stoned, wailing, Hendrix guitar dove tails perfectly with Bronson’s raps, and the apocalyptic, Styles P featuring Gateway to Wizardry, which switches up halfway through from swirling hip hop beat to a grotesque bass pummelling monster.

Throughout, the beats Alchemist throws down are swampy, heavy prog rock sampling monsters, unafraid of hard, smashing drums and the occasional cock rocking guitar solo. These productions are probably the best thing on the tape, Bronson’s style is first enthralling, then as his street subject matter is delivered track after track with little variation, wearying. Still, as free downloads go, this one is well worth copping. Fans of true school hip hop, dusty samples, convoluted word play and untold references to dinner, should head over to Dat Piff and grab it now.
