SupaJam reviews The Stone Roses at FIB 2012

Since their reunion there has been a great deal of conversation surrounding The Stone Roses. Many fans that had seen them the first time round had come to see the band return. The anticipation was mounting in the audience. Lucky enough to be at the barrier, literally metres from the stage, we were engulfed by a sea of fans who had braved the heat through the other acts just to be in prime position. The crowd ranged from younger to older, all with a shared feeling of excitement at the prospect of being moments away from seeing The Stone Roses live.

Suddenly Stoned Love by The Supremes started playing as the stage lighting dropped, an unexpected and light-hearted start to the set which brought a smile to our faces. The band sauntered on stage. Laid back and slightly aloof, unfazed by the sheer size of the crowd. The whole main stage arena was full - a first at the festival so far.

Opening with the hit I Wanna Be Adored the show started with a bang. There was a buzz in the audience, we felt like this was a moment to remember. All the greatest hits were played including Fools Gold which was never performed on any previous tour, and was complimented perfectly by a backdrop of psychedelic swirling shapes, keeping the crowd totally fixated.

Ian Brown got in the groove throughout playing sleigh bells, which were later thrown into the audience as souvenirs of this momentous performance. The Stone Roses were undeniably talented, making it look so easy with a completely flawless performance. At the end the band all huddled together for a hug, a celebration of a successful show and a truly appreciative audience. We heard Ian Brown say he thought they had made a connection with the crowd. A very touching end to a great show!
